Lourdes Stroke Center Makes AHA Target: Stroke Honor Roll

Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center has been named to the Target: Stroke Honor Roll by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for its excellence in emergency stroke care.

Lourdes stroke program is one of only two hospitals in Louisiana to achieve this status. Target: Stroke is a national quality improvement campaign created to improve outcomes for ischemic stroke patients by achieving a door‐to‐needle time within 60 minutes of arriving at the hospital for at least 50% of patients eligible for IV rt‐PA (a “clot‐busting” medication). Lourdes exceeded the targeted goal with its overall results being 68.9%.

Lourdes is a certified Stroke Center of Excellence and is one of only five centers in Louisiana to receive the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. With a multi‐faceted Fast Alert program in the E.R., Lourdes has coordinated recovery efforts at all touch points – from ambulances in the field to dedicated nursing staff, neurologists, neurosurgeons and the only full‐time interventional neuroradiologists in Lafayette.

Each year about 700,000 American suffer a new or recurrent stroke. Stroke leads the nation as the third leading cause of death
